FESTIVAL I-SPY
FESTIVAL I-SPY
A beautifully illustrated poster hitting the tent peg on the head, Festival I-Spy is also what everybody needs to play by this summer.
We got Nic on the phone for a chat about it.
What festivals contributed to this?
I was at Bestival last year and after spotting the six hundredth lone flip-flop stuck in the mud I knew I had to compile a collection of all these bizarre scenes that are so ordinary at festivals. I spoke to a friend and we got together a list of all the best stuff we'd seen. Originally it started as a spoof of the Michelin I-spy books I had as a kid but aesthetically it then turned into a standalone image.
Summer 2013 is a great year for festivals; will you be heading to any this year?
I don't know yet! There were talks of Latitude and Bestival ... I'm gutted I'm not going to Glastonbury to see the Stones. I was at Field Day a few weeks back and that was excellent.
What is the weirdest thing you have ever found at a festival?
Oh god, I can't pick one. I've seen more than my fair share of chubby 60-something men lying around off their faces just wearing pants, or a cape, or something involving sequins.
What tools did you use to make this?
I draw everything by hand and then colour it in Illustrator and add texture in Photoshop.
Would you ever consider taking this piece further? Would be great to see a campaign around this or something made from it!
If there was a call to do that, then yeah! It could work well as a sort of Top Trumps-style set of cards, or poster series. There is definitely potential!
Make sure to play the Festival I-Spy game this summer; every lonely flip-flop needs some appreciation.
