Untitled III – This is Street Art has finally dropped, and it’s fucking amazing. Having found a copy for sale in a bookshop in Old Street tube station I brought one and had a gander. What makes this different from the first two is nothing. It is pretty much the same as the first two. But this is not a bad thing, because as a wise man once told me “if it aint broke don’t fix it” The book is a little Banksy heavy, but this includes the 'Bunfight at the Camden Canal' – the supposed beef with Robbo which they obviously felt that they had to document. What is appealing about this series is that it features photos from genuine fans and street art aficionados such as Jeremy Gibbs, Lois Stavsky, Dug da Bug, who all have online presence. It also features the latest works by your favourite artists such as C215, Mark Jenkins, Gaia, Michael de Feo, Zezao, Roa.

 

 

I’ve been watching Indonesian street artist Stereoflow for some time now. An example of his work is featured below. He is selling some of his art prints to help raise funds for the people of Indonesia who have been deeply affected by the earthquake which occurred in late October. The earthquake was registered as 7.7 on the Richter scale, killing 300 people. If this wasn’t enough the Volcano Mount Merapi on the island of Java, erupted spewing hot ash and killing 30. The Underbelly Project, an idea being run out in New York, Brooklyn, where around one hundred street artists feature their work in a disused underground train station, has hit the news recently. The idea is to produce “a space in the world that collectors couldn’t contaminate. A space that couldn’t be brought”. Fantastic idea the only problem with it though is that it has been proved very difficult to find. And with this problem comes the NYC pigs, who have arrested a number of people from trying to sneak a peek of artists work. Trespassing is the obvious charge, but I wonder whose property they are trespassing on? Anyway some thoughtful fellow managed to tag the work here on FLICKR

 

 

Popped down to the Secret Wars Euro League semi final at the Village Underground, where Birmingham beat London and Amsterdam beat Lisbon. Check out the YouTube from the event. London was good but Birmingham was the deserved winners. Meanwhile in my opinion it was a closer contest between Amsterdam and Lisbon. The final? My money is on Amsterdam, though Birmingham won’t make it easy for them. That’s all for now folks. Till next week.
