DUOLOGUE'S SONG AND DANCE

Written by Robert Foster

These things were usually along the lines of "[band x] sound like The Ramones shagging Justice in a lift while Beck kisses Rick Ross's back fat and Henry Rollins films it all on an iPhone 5", because all music journalists are sexless young men obsessed with eclecticism who really want you to know how well they know The Ramones and Black Flag back catalogues.

That said, I haven't had sex in ages, I've just finished switch-hitting Om and Pusha T on the stereo and I love to jam The Process Of Weeding Out while cleaning my Japanese Promo vinyl copy of Subterrean Jungle. I therefore feel I'm well qualified to tell you that Duologue sound like Hot Chip and Thom Yorke hanging out at a Soho wine bar while Psychic TV wait for the loo and The Bad Seeds defrag Billy Corgan's PC on the pavement outside.

Jeez, the internet couldn't have come soon enough, could it? Check out Duologue here:

Look! It's those cheekbones from the Mighty Boosh! Duologue are pretty fantastic too though, huh? House + male vocals should happen loads more than it does. They've also just dropped their new album, Song & Dance, and to celebrate Ross Stone from the band made Don't Panic a Spotify playlist with all the band's favourite jams on, it's like we're his crush or something. If you don't have Spotify by now then you're beyond hope, but if you do, then go listen to their Playlist here.

Oh, and Ross made some notes on each song (OMG he must be crushing on us soooooo hard!!!!).

1 - A breeze through the burford spur by Broadcast

This is from the wonderful film Berbarian Sound Studio and was also, shamefully,my first introduction to Broadcast.

2. 3 by Seekae

I'm a big fan of these guys. They're based out in Sydney and have excellent production with a real ear for melody - that makes for the best electronic music in my book. You can hear a big Clark influence here.

3. Gone by Lapalux

Really looking forward to his album out soon. Lots of great textures and atmospheres here.

4. Regis Chillbin by Eprom

Don't know too much about this guy, I know he's a beatmaker from the West Coast and Machinedrum did a great remix of this tune - not as great as the original though.

5. She's funny that way by Art Tatum

"A few tunes I'm sure you'll enjoy - I don't know about the piano playing"

I know about the piano playing and if you can't enjoy his then you definitely won't enjoy mine. He's great.

6. Henderon Wretch by Clark

Everyone in Duologue was a huge fan of this album - it was such a interesting mix of sounds and ideas. Feels like a classic to me and this is the opening track.

7. So Good at Being in Trouble - Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Found out about these guys through their gigs with Grizzly Bear. Never been  huge into my psychcadelic stuff but the songs really shine through here - these is almost Beach Boys territory and I love how phasey the whole record sounds.

8. Brook by Throwing Snow

We played a gig with Ross a while back and he was fantastic - so great to see him doing so well, he just opened for Atoms for Peace! Excellent side-chaining going on here.

9. Constant by Duologue

Thought we might as well put oneof ours on - this is towards the end of our album, Song & Dance that just came out. Our take on a minimal house ballad.

10. A Day's Pay for A Day's Work by Darkstar

New Darkstar is always worth a listen - not a massive fan but this one stood out on the new record.

11. All Eyes - Post War Years

We're out on tour with these guys at the moment - they're an awesome bunch and a great band. This tunes always goes down well.
