VOTE: WHICH BOOMER RUINED THE WORLD?

Written by Neil Boorman
22 Thursday 22nd April 2010

They run the government, they run the banks, they run all the big companies; lets face it, Baby Boomers run the world. It’s not surprising then, that finding reckless and bent Boomers is like shooting fish in a barrel. But who’s done most to make everything so shit? We’re running a nationwide poll to find out. And the winner will be named and shamed in the national press next week.

Cast your vote by Saturday 1st April and you’ll get a free copy of Neil Boorman’s new e-book It's All Their Fault. Please vote right now – it’ll be worth it just to see these people’s names dragged through the mud. Just click on the person that you want to vote for.

Terry ’Tesco’ Leahy
CEO of the ‘evil empire’, which ruthlessly exploits suppliers, farmers and workers worldwide, while driving out local shops and businesses. Workers in Bangladesh are allegedly paid 7p an hour for making Tesco’s clothes. Sir Tezza, meanwhile, gets paid approx £674 an hour.

Jeremy Clarkson
Perpetual adolescent… serial whinger… terrible jeans. Truly, Clarkson was born to be the poster boy of his generation. Every middle-aged man wishes they were him. And for that reason, he’s probably the most powerful Boomer in Britain.

Osama Bin Laden
Founding leader of al-Qaeda, claims responsibility for 9/11, anti-Semitic, anti-socialism, anti-democratic, and he doesn’t like gays, fornicaction or intoxicants either. He’s the reason why you’re threatened with body cavity searches at the airport. Especially if you’ve got a beard.

Simon Cowell
These are just a few of the bands that Cowell is responsible for: Westlife, Five, Robson & Jerome, Ultimate Kaos, Zig and Zag, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Joe McElderry, Shayne Ward, Il Divo and Susan Boyle.

Bono
He campaigns against poverty, but robs poor people by stashing his wealth in a tax haven. Plus U2 won’t stop strangling the life out of the charts until every human being on the planet has bought at least twelve of their albums (which is all of them).

Fred ‘The Shred’ Goodwin
You have to admire the extravagance of any man that buys wallpaper at a grand a roll. Except when it’s at the expense of 18,000 jobs. He also bought a £17.5 million executive jet with the money he saved from the Natwest payroll.
And then triggered the biggest loss in UK corporate history, and cost the taxpayer £33 billion in bailout money.

Jonathan Ross
Sachsgate generated so much heat that the security gates of the BBC blew off, at which point the right wing thought police steamed in and took over management. The BBC is now so bound up in red tape, it’ll never be able to take risks again.

Dick ‘Lehman Brothers’ Fuld
Oversaw the largest bankruptcy of all time when Lehman Bros collapsed during the credit crunch. But managed to pay himself $22 million before it went bust. Fuld’s trophy cabinet is like no other, including No.1 Worst CEO in History, Most Overpaid CEO, and Most Blameworthy Businessman Responsible For The Recession.

Tony Blair
Killed off free education, invaded Iraq illegally, widened the gap between rich and poor, and sank the New Labour ship. Also, he punished the nation with a re-release of D:Ream’s ‘Things Can Only Get Better’.

Sir Richard Branson
Richie is the cuddly face of Boomer Capitalism. But he refuses to pay taxes like the rest of us foot soldiers do. His £1.5 billion fortune is tied up in complicated offshore trusts and companies, ensuring the taxman will never see a penny of it.

Richard ‘CBI’ Lambert
Head of the powerful business lobby the CBI, Lambert is campaigning to make students ‘pay higher fees, more interest on loans and get less grants’. How do you get to become the head of an organization like that? Studying for free at Oxford, like Richard did, helps a great deal.

Sir Phillip Green
Mr Topshop and his family have ’saved themselves’ £300m from their £1.2bn earnings by channeling assets to complicated investment companies in Monaco. With all that money, you’d think he could pay workers a living wage. But his company lags way behind the rest of the high street when it comes to paying overseas workers a living wage.

George Bush
Invaded Iraq illegally, tortured detainess, killed the Kyoto environmental agreement, oversaw the longest and deepest recession since World War II. Did just about everything he could to upset everyone in the world except his gun toting, oil well-owning mates in Texas.

Adam Applegarth
Drove Northern Rock into the ground, forcing the taxpayer (ie you and me) to bail the bank out for £26.9 billion. He walked away with a £760,000 payoff.

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou
The Easy Jet founder has made £1.29 billion, mostly by filling our skies with cheap flights and billions of tones of carbon. But he chooses not to pay tax on any of his earnings, being a non-dom registered in Monaco. Well, it’s only little people that pay taxes after all.

Peter Mandelson
Pushing for £7 grand tuition fees, a third runway at Heathrow, and criminal sentences for file sharing. Resigned from Government twice, once for not declaring loans, Government, once for taking backhander loans, the second time for influencing the application for passports to wealthy overseas friends.

Jon ‘Foxtons’ Hunt
With his army of estate agent lackies, Hunt made a killing by inflating the house price bubble. He made a second killing by flogging the business months before the bubble burst, leaving everyone, but himself, high and dry. First time buyers will never get a look in ever again.

Charles Clarke
Ever wondered who it was that signed the bill to charge every student £3000 tuition fees, even though his party’s manifesto promised never to do so? It was Charles. Its particularly galling when you find out that he got his own education at Oxford FOR FREE.

Rolling Stones
Just stop. Now, please.

Richard Littlejohn
Nick Griffin’s favourite columnist, the highest paid and most popular columnist at the Daily Mail, Littlejohn rants endlessly about the ‘plagues’ of gays, asylum seekers and immigrants. And middle England, unfortunately, believes everything he says.

Iggy Pop
Raged against the machine until he needed more money, then became a Swiftcover insurance salesman. Like every other Boomer rebel, selling out isn’t an insult for Iggy, it’s an aspiration.

Wow! So many to choose from, really all of them have had a hand in ruining the world and with life expectancy on the increase they will continue to make our lives hell for the foreseeable future!
